An Apprenticeship is a work based training programme that provides a mixture of on and off the job training whilst you are employed.

Training is tailored to meet the specific requirements of an individual's job role within the company they are employed.

An Apprenticeship programme is made up of an:

  • NVQ/QCF - A portfolio recording on the job activities and training, assessed at an individual’s place of work to ensure competence
  • Technical certificate - Designed as knowledge and theory based off the job training, to compliment on the job training and to meet specific requirements for a particular industry sector
  • Key skills – (Key skills or Functional Skills) are a generic set of skills required for any job role including areas covering Maths, English and Computer Literacy

Apprenticeships are offered to anybody over the age of 16 and who work for 30 hours or more. Unlike the traditional format of an Apprenticeship, they now apply to many areas and sectors outside of the traditional ’trade’ job role. In addition, an Apprenticeship can offer benefits to a wide range of individuals and job levels, from intermediate level (equivalent to GCSE’s) to higher level Apprenticeship (equivalent to degree level and above).
